There are presently no open calls for submissions.


The Prize: One top award of 
$1000 per year, and a short List of up to 10 honorable mentions. 

The Reading Period: Open submissions from September, 2014 now extended to March 1, 2015.

The Prompt: Poems in the spirit of Robert Frost, however you define that.

Number of Poems: You may submit up to 3 poems.

Length: Each poem should be no more 
than 3 pages.

Electronic submissions: During the first step of the submission process you'll establish a personal Submittable account; from there you'll be able to leave a cover letter, upload your manuscript (containing up to 3 poems x 3 pages) in a single document. Filetypes allowed are .docx, .doc, .rtf, .txt,  or .pdf. You can charge your submission (VISA, MasterCard, or PayPal) when you make your submission. You will be able to track the status of your submissions and view copies of the drafts and cover letter you submitted.

Note: Important change to the new electronic submission guidelines. Please submit blind copies of your work; that is, remove any contact information before you upload the document; your contact information enters the submission only from your free Submittable account that is established during the first step of the submission process.This ensures that all readers will review blind copies of your submissions.

Electronic submissions are becoming the standard for poetry contests.  To gain confidence, you can use the Practice category (below) to do a test submission of any poem before your final submission of your contest poems.

Snail mail:  Send original manuscripts of up to 3 poems of up to 3 pages each  with no contact information. In snail mail  submissions, include one additional copy of each poem with your name, address, email, phone # and a check for $12/poem to Robert Frost Award / Lawrence Library /  51 Lawrence St /Lawrence MA 01841.   This ensures that all readers will review blind copies of your submissions.

Additional guidelines:

          •Poems should be postmarked (or email timestamped) between September 1 and the extended deadline of March 1 to be considered for the yearly award.


          •Poets may submit up to three poems each of not more than three pages for consideration.  


          •Poems should be on plain paper with no marks other than the poem and the title. 


          •Prior published work may be submitted; for all work submitted to the Robert Frost Foundation, you retain copyright and the Robert Frost Foundation will request your  permission if we choose to publish your work or portions of it on our web site, Facebook, Twitter,  or in other foundation publications.

          
          •Manuscripts will not be returned.


          •Winners will be notified in late March 2015 of their position on the judges short-list. 


          •For a list of winners, please visit the site frostfoundation.org on the day after the Massachusetts Poetry Festival (TBA in 2015) when the official announcement will be posted.


          •Deadline for submissions is now extended to March 1, 2015.
